The Golden Olympics 2.0 was the second of it’s kind in the history of Day Stars Private Schools. It was a memorable event filled with a lot of fun activities. It was held on the 15th of March 2023 at The Osogbo City Stadium. As early as 7am, some of the vendors in charge of decorations were seen setting up the venue with beautiful pictures of our students. The ambience of the venue was breathtaking.
Parents and students/pupils were seen coming in one after the other to grace the occasion. We had in attendance Engineer Lanre Adeleke as the Chairman of the occasion, Pastor Pham. Adetokunbo as the Mother of the day, Honourable Mr and Mrs Akindiya the Chief Host of the event, Mrs. Bolajoko the school consultant to mention a few of the dignitaries present. To foster a healthy competitive spirit, some neighbouring invited schools were also in attendance.
In order to have a safe guarded event, some safety and security measures were put in place. The Civil Defence Corps ambulance service department was on standby, The Nigerian Police Band, Man O’ War, Boys Scout and Girls Guide and others were in attendance.
The event kick started with an opening prayer led by Pastor Pham. Adetokunbo. Students and pupils from each of the houses (Marigold, Daisy, Jasmine and Mirabel) represented in four different colours ( Yellow, Blue, Green and Red) came together on the field to present the first activity of the day. The lighting of the Olympic touch was done by the sport perfect. The national and the school anthem was recited during the Calisthenic presentation. The stadium was illuminated with this colourful and well-rehearsed performance. It was a display of uniqueness and unity, just as the theme song implies “together we are one”.
The cheerleaders representing each of the houses took turns to display their different synchronized energetic move with the flyers showcasing their awesome acrobatic skills before the match past parade which was done to instill a sense of pride and camaraderie, as well as to teach students to obey commands quickly and accurately.
In addition, a unique match past taged “Regal Salute” was presented by each of the house. The Regal Salute is a blend of the regular match past and a synchronized dance moves with a touch of swag. These presentations served as an opening for the spectacular and magnificent Royal Crew.
The Royal Crew in each of the houses exhibited the rich and diverse culture of some selected tribes in Nigeria. Starting from Jasmine (green house) representing the proud Uhrobo people of Delta State in the South-South region of Nigeria. The royal family of the Edo kingdom from Benin State, Nigeria were gladly represented by Mirabel (red house). Marigold (yellow house) went all out to showcase the elegant Igbo people from the Eastern part of Nigeria. Lastly, the Yoruba kingdom of the Western region of Nigeria were buoyantly represented by Daisy (blue house). The dancers of each of these tribes were seen dancing excitedly to entertain the royal families and all other guest present at the event. Gifts from the Kings were presented to the chief host of the event, in person of Hon. Mr and Mrs Akindiya. The Royal Crew was a sight to behold. It will always remain fresh in the memory of those in attendance.
Various games/ sporting activities that involved all the categories of pupils and students in Day Stars Private Schools were readily available. Pupils in preschool displayed their architectural and engineering skills by constructing the tallest tower and the longest bridge ever seen. Other games, such as pegging the cup, filling the bottle, egg race, filling the basket, dress-up were carried out by the primary school pupils. The secondary school students participated in the 100m race, relay race, bicycle race, and huddles to mention a few.
Parents and teachers weren’t left behind as they also participated in some of the fun filled games. It’s was a moment of joy and laughter seeing some mummies and daddies racing and picking up balls to fill-up baskets.
Teachers of the various campuses took turns to present their brilliant and intriguing performances. They also had time to dance to their various choice of music played by the DJ. All Head of school alongside the Directors had a special moment to dance to the high-life musical performance of the Nigerian Police Force Band.
Towards the tail end of the event, specific appreciation was given to all invited guests and parents. Parents who selflessly supported the event with various gifts, ranging from cash gifts, sporting items, edibles and many more were significantly recognised and appreciated immensely.
Finally, the result. Miracle (red house) had the least point (221) overall, making them the third running up. Next is the second runner up Jasmine (green house) with a total of 343 points. Marigold (yellow house) came second with the total point of 362. Daisey (blue house) emerged as the overall winner with a total point of 407. This was a moment of excitement for all those on the winning team. Parents and students were seen jubilating and giving positive feedback regarding their experience at the event.
